Edelfalter

The first ray of sunshine after days of long, hard rain peeked out from behind the blinds. I opened the window for a breath of fresh air. Out of the blue, an Edelfalter approached. Its wings were majestic, unlike those of common butterflies. The tiny insect perched nimbly on one of my fingers. Its fragile body seemed to be heaved by those blue-painted wings that spanned and flapped steadily.

You know, I often wonder why God creates such a beautiful creature from, for lack of a better word, something abominable. You might find the question to be rhetorical, something that is self-explained. However, isn't it fascinating to think that sometimes, something so trivial could hold such a deep meaning if we try to reflect on it? Perhaps we have taken things for granted way too much. Perhaps those minuscule details that we often leave out provide clues to the life puzzles that we have to solve.

Back to our initial question, what can we learn from Edelfalters? Their life starts from being caterpillars. Speaking of caterpillars, you might agree that they are not the most attractive-looking animals. Surely life is not always easy for them, as they are prone to predators and have to deal with an ever-shifting environment. However, they grow. They adapt by choosing to restrain themselves and being secluded in a cocoon. They go through stages of transformation, sacrificing part of themselves in search of something more beautiful. You know, growth isn't without pain. It isn't without sacrifice, which could be very uncomfortable. However, a comfort zone is never meant for someone who longs for a change in their life. Aren't you tired of being in the same place over and over again? Or perhaps, does the gilded cage of yours look much more mesmerizing than the freedom of being able to spread your wings?

I took one last careful look at the Edelfalter. Before long, it soared into the blue sky, bracing for the unknown.
