The Girl with a Scythe and a Bag of Seeds

I'll tell you a story about a girl's spirit from Nothingville who brought a sycthe and a bag of seeds. According to a certain lore, she was a peasant girl who longed to be married to a prince. Everytime the Prince visited her village, she was always there to watch him as the royal parade went by. She herself wasn't very confident, therefore the Prince could almost never sensed her presence.

Out of despair, one day she decided to give up on her dream to marry the Prince. After that, she began to sow some seeds at her backyard. She trimmed and took care of the tree very carefully until years later, the tree grew into one of the most beneficial trees in the village. People often picked the fruits and made use of other parts of the tree. As the tree grew even taller as if it was reaching for the sky, the girl often used her scythe to harvest its fruits. In addition, she was often seen carrying a bag full of the tree's seeds to be distributed to the villagers. That was where the nickname "The Girl with a Scythe and a Bag of Seeds" came.

The villagers lived happily in prosperity, until one day a coup d'état happened in the capital city. The King was forced to descend from the throne, and the rest of his family, including the Prince as the heir to the throne, were killed. The new tyrant then decided to burn down every cities and villages which were not willing to join force with the new government. The girl's village was no exception, too. She survived only to see the tree that she had grown for years had been burned to the ground. To her, the sin was unforgivable.

She then led an army of the surviving villagers to overthrow the tyrant. Years went by and victory was near. However, she was one day being captured after one of her men betrayed her and reported the uprising she had caused to the government. She later was beheaded with her very own scythe along with the rest of her loyal fellows.

Legend said that the ghost of this peasant girl and the Prince she once was in love with were often seen at the place where the tree was used to be. The girl was still bringing her scythe and a bag of seeds, while the Prince always looked at her proudly.

Author's note :

Another random, mindless ramble. This part is out of the topic. Skip it as you wish.

Back when I wrote this, I had the slightest thought of a certain character in Dee Lestari's novel "Perahu Kertas", named Kugy. I was wondering in a milisecond if I was as (coughing sfx) talented as Kugy in terms of creating great fairy tales in an instant (wearing black glasses emoji). As I posted this on my blog, I regretted my thoughts rightaway. Truth to be told, I was on a project to write a short story for a certain competition and, man, I was stuck for days.

To you, the reader of this piece of nothing-really who I adore very much, I kindly ask your willingness to wish me luck on finishing my project. May you'll be granted with health, happiness, and anything you wished for as well. Thank you in advance!
