Is It Okay to Not be in A Flock?
I want you to take a look at these two quotes I compare. I've heard somewhere that people hike Mt. Everest as a group rather than on their own. Meanwhile, our founding father, Mr. President Soekarno himself, famously quoted that ducks tend to roam in flocks, while an eagle would soar freely by itself in the sky.
Wait, this is not apple-to-apple comparison, don't you think?
I would say that you're probably right if you say it's not. We're totally on the same page, even though I take the truth as if I forcefully swallowed bitter pills down my throat.
Being a solo player is indeed an adventurous choice. We live our dreams based on our very own decisions. The freedom to choose is basically ours, with every risks coming would be ours to be fully responsible with. And that, my friend, is never an easy decision, if I may say. It is, especially, valid for those with weak hearts. If the metaphor goes with romance, then this one's much more of an infatuation instead of pure love. What do I mean by this? A burning passion which does not last very long; a weakness in some of the humankind's soul. One day, you want this particular thing so much that you decide to ignore others, but the other day you stop pursuing it by some silly excuses you've made up. Excuses, as small as a lack of motivation or any other small obstacles that should never hinder your progress.
Which makes thing obvious that if you want to go atop of the highest mountain in the world, you should never carry on the quest by yourself.
The thing is, sometimes you're gonna need to verbalize the dreams in front of others so that they would willingly pray the best for you. Of course, you definitely won't do that to every person you meet on the street. You must've picked up the ones from you closest circle; those who you think you can put a trust on them.
However, would it be as simple as what we think?
For me, the answer is still a no. Some people, I believe, prefer to keep things for themselves. There are just certain reasons they can't elaborate, but they enjoy to work alone. However kind of people like me going to say, though, one day we just have to leave the comfort zone and be engaged in the real world's social life. As much as we don't like it, there can be miracles happen to us or to our dreams. Perhaps it is meant to boost us towards our goal, by ways we could never imagine. Perhaps by sacrificing a portion of of our effort, there lies endless of opportunities ahead for us. We may never know.
Here's to you who dare to step out of comfort zone and start collaborating. I hope you'll do well.
By being inside a group of people, you're still an eagle after all. Only if you're within the right circle then you all are a flock of eagles soaring in the sky, nothing less.
