If I Die Young

If I die young bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song

I'm personally not a fan of Glee, which is understandable, since I haven't watched even a single episode of the series. Yet about a year ago, I started to listen to their covers of several popular songs.

As far as I could recall, the first song that Glee covered which stole my heart is Celine Dion's To Love You More. The heartwarming song was sung beautifully with Lea Michelle's more emotional version --at least that's how I think of it. Later on I fell in love with more and more covered songs of theirs, such as Make You Feel My Love, Defying Gravity, Total Eclipse of My Heart, and many more.

And there I was, having Glee songs as one of my favourite playlist to accompany me during a long evening of studying (or contemplating, I'm not really sure which of it). Soon after that I tried to find out more about these series (thanks to Google), also about the death of one of the cast named Cory Monteith (who plays as Finn in the series), which led the other casts to give such emotional, heart-wrenching tribute songs to him. One of the songs, aside from the famous Make You Feel My Love, is titled If I Die Young. Originally sung by The Band Perry, this one song was covered by Naya Rivera who plays as Santana Lopez. And yes, not only heart-breaking, this song hit us deep inside, especially while recalling to the current event that happened to Rivera herself.

Naya Rivera, who plays as Santana Lopez in "Glee"

According to CNN News, Naya Rivera vanished on Wednesday evening (7/8), at local time. The 33-year-old actress was presumed dead after disappearing in Lake Piru, California. She went to the lake and rent a boat with her 4-year-old son. Hours after the presumed incident, the boy was found alone in the middle of the lake by a boat rental employee. The local authorities are still trying to search for her; however, the Sheriff of Ventura County stated that if the body is entangled in something beneath the water, it may never come back up.

Now here's the thing that sends shivers down my spine. The melody, along with the lyrics of If I Die Young is still fresh, and keep on playing inside my head.

If I die young bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song

Lord make me a rainbow, I'll shine down on my mother
She'll know I'm safe with you when
She stands under my colours, oh and
Life ain't always what you think it oughta be, no
Ain't even grey, but she buries her baby

The sharp knife of a short life,
Well, I've had just enough time

Oh, what a sharp knife of life. A life that's too short, too unpredictable. Oh, can she even get what she wants, as what she had sung beautifully in the song? Her wishes of how people should have bidden her farewell, although the words are not directly hers, but still ... can't she?

Our prayers for her and her family.
