Mirabilis jalapa* at the Mercy of A Lifeless Human Being

That person might not be the last human being on earth who started to lose the track of time. Everyday looked the same, over and over again. The hollowness in life, the black void that started to crawl, spread more and more darkness to the already darkened heart. That one human being had lost all its hope at the most.

"Do you know why we call it 'asurumaa' back in our home country, Maldives?" a friend of that person, whom she found about a year ago on Facebook, asked.

"No idea," that person typed as she replied to the friend's chat absentmindedly. "Why is that so?"

"Just make a guess. I know you're good at languages." Grinning emoticon. Ugh, what on earth is wrong with her? Just get to the point!

"I believe you are familiar with Surah Al 'Asr, right?"

Hmm... interesting. That person watched carefully a picture of beautiful, trumpet-shaped flowers on the screen. If she figured it out correctly, which hopefully she did, then she could start to reconfirm about that feeling of desolation...

"Look, my friend," that person began typing. She shifted into a better position in front of her laptop.

"I am never used to something like this. I truly miss the old times. It is my surroundings which always force me to do what I am supposed to." Now all I have are cold, scraped walls and old furniture with their lifeless stare, also watching a lifeless, zombie-like person in this room. I hate it.

"You know what, Mirabilis also means 'wonderful' in Latin. It blooms and produces sweet-smelling fragrance at a certain time, certain hour, just like its namesake. Not to mention the charming colours as well," the friend jumped rightaway into explaining.

"And what exactly it is that you're gonna tell me..." that person grew impatient. However, she could never, for sure,  argue to a friend who was already willing to listen to whatever craps she said.

"Hold on a sec, isn't today Friday? Wow, lucky you. If Jakarta is in UTC+07.00, which makes two hours difference from my home country, you are supposed to enter the asr time in a few minutes."

The friend might have known that someone such as the hollow-hearted person was no fool. That person was just a little bit reckless and couldn't contain too much. The scraped walls still stared to her, and so did the clock that was kept ticking intimidatingly. She was hopeless and isolated and only God knows what else. But that one last thought brought her back to the brink of her sanity.

Had she tried to speak to Him, all these times?

*) Mirabilis jalapa, the marvel of Peru or four o'clock flower, is the most commonly grown ornamental species of Mirabilis plant, and is available in a range of colours. The flowers usually open from late afternoon or at dusk (namely between 4 and 8 o'clock), giving rise to one of its common names. (source : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirabilis_jalapa)
