Mangrove Ecotourism Centre is a mangrove conservation area and tourism park that is located in Jalan Pantai Indah Utara 1, Kapuk, North Jakarta. This place might doesn’t sound familiar, especially when it is compared to the well-known and sophisticated Nature Tourism Park in Angke. However, several people prefer this place as an alternative tourist destination due to its very low-cost entrance fee, which is only two thousand rupiahs for each person.
Managed by the Forestry Office of DKI Jakarta, this Mangrove Ecotourism Centre, also called as Jalan Tol Sedyatmo mangrove area, occupies 95.5 hectares of land. Aside from this park, the Forestry Office also runs other mangrove conservatory areas, which includes the Arboretum and Protection Forest. Before its initiation in 2008, Mangrove Ecotourism Centre Kapuk was used to be a wild embankment cultivated by local farmers. From then, the Forestry Office have conducted trainings and provided facilities for those farmers regarding the mangrove plantation.
People usually comes to visit Mangrove Ecotourism Centre for sightseeing or de-stressing after long hours of office jobs. The shades of mangrove trees are also perfect as the backdrop for photoshoots. For those who love fishing, this place also have a water body with numerous kind of fishes, such as cat fishes and carps. Standard facilities such as toilets and praying room can be found here. There are also gazebos and an information room that shows pictures of activities there.
Opened everyday from 06.30 am to 06.00 pm, Mangrove Ecotourism Centre can be easily reached from Jakarta and beyond. Using Transjakarta from Pemuda Pramuka shelter, you can take bus corridor 7F towards Harmoni, then change to corridor 1A and get off at Simpang Mandara Permai shelter. From there, you can continue with an online transportation to the park.
